Luggage handlers strike at EBBR
Handling companies Aviapartner and Flightcare workers started a strike to raise attention to the working conditions, the union spokesman said they need more personel in order to handle the flights. Alot of flights are delayed, cancelled or diverted to another airport. Local news report aircraft departing without luggage, some even without passengers. People are adviced to pack as much as they can in the hand luggage because luggage most certainly will not be loaded. Negotiations at handling companies Aviapartner and Flightcare proceed with difficulty. After a ballot, the striking workers at Aviapartner have rejected a new proposal by the management. Until a solution is found, industrial action continues. The workers at Flightcare on the other hand resumed work on the apron at about 5 pm. Even if all striking workers were to go back to work now, it might well take a few days before airlines are operating back on schedule. It may also take more than a week before the circa 20,000 pieces of unhandled baggage are returned to their owners.
In the back of the picture you can see Apron D wich is now practicly empty.
Another bummer for EBBR, the airport was just starting to get out of financial problems.
