Hi all
I've had a Canon 70-200 F/4L lens now for a few months and have been extremely happy with the build, image and overall quality. However, for some locations at LHR (where I mostly shoot) the zoom range can be a bit restricting and I end up making heavy crops when shooting at 200mm from these places. Now I have taken a look around and have read the 1.4x extender II/III is pretty good when paired with this lens and has minimal image quality loss. The range only increases 80mm however that seems good enough to me.
Does anyone have any experiences with the 1.4x extender, specifically on the 70-200 F/4L and if so, how does it perform?

I used this combo a few times, with 1.4x II extender and didn't like the results. A crop of the plain 70-200 looked sharper than the image with the extender.
I read sometime ago that the 1.4x III is much better than the II version. I'm thinking about getting one but I'm not sure yet, I'd like test one before buying. |

Hi Mate,
My opinion is that, the cost of the Canon 1.4x II is circa £300, and the III around £400 (New).
You could get a good £300-350 for your Canon 70-200 F4 providing the condition is good.
That £350 + £300 (for converter) would put you in short sight of a used 70-300 L (Or Brand New from Panamoz/Digital Rev @ £800).
The reviews for the Kenko one are positive, comparable in quality to Canon's, so if your adamant on a converter I'd get that, at least you won't be disappointed in terms of IQ for your Money. |
