Hello!

I'm planning on buying a new camera, I know it's better to get a good lens instead of a camera, but my current camera (D3000), is very bad at ISO 800 or more. I was thinking about getting the D7100, is it a good camera for spotting? I'm interested in knowing how good it is in terms of noise, because as I have explained before my current camera is very bad for this.

Also, shooting in RAW is OK? Or are file sizes too big?

Thanks in advance!

To start off, I am using a D3200 and in my opinion, with correct lenses, it does the job properly, also for darker shots. Have got a mate that has got a D7100 and loves every single bit of it, especially making pictures at night. As for the RAW-images, I recommend you do shoot in RAW. When you have a 32GB card (which I have) you will be able to shoot up to 1000 shots on that card using RAW. You can get these cards for no more than 25 euro's.

Hope my explanation was useful :)

I switched to a D7100 this year after selling one of my D300's.

Fantastic camera for the money and I know plenty of others who have made the switch and havent looked back since.

Only thing to consider if you shoot RAW is whether you're a spray and pray type of tog. If so forget it as you'll hit the buffer in 4 shots.

Shoot in 2-3 shot bursts with a slight pause and you'll have no issues.

I currently use a D7100 and I absolutely love it. I have kit lenses so the quality is nowhere near what it could be. The D3000 is great if you have great glass. I wouldn't switch bodies unless it is restricting your knowledge of photography. The glass makes all the difference in the world. I wish I had stuck with my D3100 and gotten a nice lens instead of switching bodies. Don't get me wrong, I love my D7100! But go for the glass before he body in my opinion.

Good luck!

I think You have a point, CHancock. The D7100 is indeed a great DX Camera.

Jose. If You get a D7100 You might have to upgrade your lenses too. So I would also say, You go for the glass.

Yes, I think I'm going to do that as my current Sigma 70-300 isn't stabilized...
