Thanks sky5, the photo had been taken only few seconds before that Dash 8 landed. The confusion is probably caused by the fisheye lens distortion.

Amazing shot and can't wait to read your article when you publish it. I'm amazed that one flash could light an aircraft like this. I thought for a moment you'd used multiple studio lights!
