A rare thing, a British built sailplane. The Vega was designed in 1977 and was the first to be built with a carbon fibre mainspar from the outset.

This Vega was modified to a 17L, by the addition of wing tip extensions from 15m to 17m.
They are fitted in this photo.

The Vega is one of the few gliders that have a retractable tail wheel, but because of the
complicated mechanism, most examples have been modified to leave the wheel
extended.
The hangar in the background houses 10 aircraft on each side, by parking
each glider wing down enabling the next glider to be slotted in under the raised wing,
which allows most aircraft to be extracted by moving just two doors (it is necessary to
move three doors for aircraft in the next to end slots). The hangar was designed and built
by Scottish Gliding Union members, it is modular and data has been provided to allow
similar hangars to be built in the UK and elsewhere.
