Cyprus Turkish Airlines - KTHY
Turkey's Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that the KTHY's operating licence was suspended for three months as of June 21, 2010.
Full story from World Bulletin http://www.worldbulletin.net...
Pegasus Airlines said about developments regarding the Cyprus Turkish Airlines (KTHY), "we proposed to establish a joint company with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) state. They accepted our proposal in principal."
The airliner said in a statement, "Pegasus executives has held several talks with the TRNC government since June 11."
"We are aware of the fact that increasing number of flights to the TRNC is of vital importance for economic development. We proposed the TRNC government to establish a joint company. They accepted our proposal in principle. But we have not yet made an official decision," it said.
Meanwhile, Turkey's Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that the KTHY's operating licence was suspended for three months as of June 21, 2010.
Earlier in the day, the civil aviation authority of the TRNC has suspended all flights conducted by the country's national air carrier KTHY because of financial problems. TRNC's Prime Ministry said that the tender aiming at finding a partner to KTHY would be concluded during the airline company's general assembly meeting to be held on Tuesday.
The statement said KTHY's financial problems and high losses could not be met by TRNC's budgetary sources, and therefore, the country's council of ministers decided to help the Turkish Cypriot flag carrier solve its financial issues with the support of a partner.
KTHY currently owed nearly 40 million USD to the Turkish Cypriot Civil Aviation Department.

We have flights booked 8th July
Antalya-Stansted return, please advise
what will be
happneing concerning these
flights. Do we rebook? rather frustrated
that someone
has been in touch via
email or perhaps it would be better if
you answered the
telephone as you are
requesting people to telephone a particular telephone number.

Will we be fully refunded for cancelled flights?

(27. 6. 2010, 10:12 CET)
If you booked by credit card, and your flight was cancelled you should be able to get your
money back from your bank. However if you are flight is mid July as mine is, we will have
to sit and wait. As I have been informed by my bank that until the flight is not made,
can they try then to get your money back. Can't even make alternative arrangements at
this stage in case KTHY put on replacement flights.

We are due to fly from Stansted to Izmir on 16th July. Information from company - NIL, no
email, nothing. I had to phone Stansted airport to get a number that actually connected.
Hotel booked and paid for. Flights to Stansted paid for. Do I try to rebook before all
other flights are full? Hope to claim from my credit card if no alternative flights
offered.

My son and his family are due to fly home to England onm 2nd July, and we are due to fly
on 9th. Do we go ahead and try and book an alternative flight or wait to see if
alternative flights are offered, or a buyer is found. No information anywhere from anyone,
even the British Embassy didn't know anything about it. AS much use as a Chocolate Teapot

Just spoke to abta office in uk. Spoke to a very helpful woman who confirmed that Atlas
are taking over KTHY flights from today. I got a helpline number of Aviation Authority in
Cyprus and spoke to a man there who confirmed that Stansted-Izmir flights are definitely
reinstated. The number is 00-903-922-31-41-69. I hope this helps. I am due to fly on
16th July - fingers crossed.

Friends of mine booked to return with KTHY from Dalaman on the 25th June 2010 - on their
behalf I telephoned KTHY, gave them my telephone number, as requested, to enable them to
tell me of the plan for my friends flight back to the UK - it is now 28th June and I have
received no telephone call from KTHY - customer care? non existent

(28. 6. 2010, 22:48 CET)
If anyone is still worried about their flight please see post number 22 which I added
earlier. The number is the helpline given by ABTA and connects to the Aviation Authority
in Cyprus. I spoke directly to the Authority with a man who had very good English and he
confirmed that flights via Izmir to Stansted are re-instated from today 28-06-10. This
site is a very helpful forum. The KTHY website is not updated which is very frustrating
for customers.

Hi I have called Atlas Jet in Istanbul and spoke to a lady until 11 July they guarantee
all flights to turkey - no guarantee after this date. I just want my money back. They
said I need to call Cyprus Turkish airline call centre to get this arranged, No one
answers - so frustrating. Will keep you posted with my progress.

I am also having no luck in contacting KTHY? So frustrating. Why don't they contact
people to let them know what is happening or even up-date their website with the official
word? Only they know? It's NOT good for Customer relations especially if they are
hoping to re-invent themselves next year! Who will travel with them if they can't look
after their Customers NOW?

Its says on world bulletin they have had their licsense suspended for 3 months. So even if
they are still 'trading' it doesnt look good for flights over the summer.

Direct Traveller can contact Atlasjet and get them to confirm your Flight arrangements.
There is a small fee for this service.

Is anyone flying from Manchester on 28th july with kthy. if so do you know if they are
still flying.
37 Timur
(20. 7. 2010, 10:03 CET)
The chances of a refund is probably nil, they have gone into bankruptcy, while at the same
time still selling tickets - they saw this coming they have screwed up up a lot of
people's holiday plans, and i hope they do not benefit from the monies they have
accumalated (stole),and they have a further nerve of not answering their phones and other
communication channels, no information about what is going on. COWBOYS with a capital
C,the will probably re-invent them selves under another name is'nt that what always
happens.FRUSTRATED, don't get me started

Received full refund from Credit Card, when KTHY announced on the 21st June they were no
longer flying, booked new flights with Thomas Cook, copied website page to Credit Card
Company along with their form and within 10 days they paid.
