Nimrod MR2 serial XV254, that was last of its type to leave RAF Kinloss in July, was acquired by the Highland Aviation Museum at Inverness. The aircraft left the air base not by air, but the fuselage of XV254 was loaded onto a road transporter for the 25 mile journey to its new home.
XV254 last flew in March 2009 and had completed over 19,000 flying hours. The Nimrod surveillance aircraft, one of which exploded in mid-air over Afghanistan in 2006 killing 14 personnel, were withdrawn from military service earlier this year.
