ATR announced that Caribbean Airlines finalized an agreement to order nine ATR 72-600s. First deliveries will start in October 2011.
The Trinidad and Tobago-based carrier will use the aircraft to replace its fleet of five Q300 aircraft in its domestic routes, and add new frequencies linking Trinidad and Tobago and surrounding destinations. In addition, some of the new ATRs will be operated in the route network of Air Jamaica, which was recently acquired by BW.
Caribbean Airlines was incorporated in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 2006 after BWIA West Indies Airways was shut down due to failed negotiations between the unions and the management.
European spotters can see Caribbean Airlines' 737-800 at Saint Maarten (SXM) in Netherlands Antilles.
