United Airlines said it was in the midst of temporarily grounding its 96 Boeing 757 aicraft on Tuesday and into Wednesday, in order to perform checks on earlier modifications to air-data computers on those planes.
United determined that further checks were necessary after modifications were made to the air data computers on the aircraft. The checks, which take 60 to 90 minutes each.
The airline urged customers to check their flight status at its websitebefore leaving for the airport. United uses the 172-seat 757s on domestic routes.
Continental's fleet as a unit of United Continental Holdings Inc. is not affected.
