The Royal International Air Tattoo held at Fairford in England, every July, is one of the biggest international airshows. It features military aircraft from all over the world in static and flying displays. This years event has been cancelled due to the amount of rain that has fallen in the last 3 days. The ground is waterlogged and it is felt that for the safety of the public, there was no other choice. Some of our photographers were at Fairford to capture aircraft movements before and after the weekend.

What a momentous day this was, Thursday the 3rd of July. A modest crowd turned up for the first day of arrivals for RAF Waddingtons 2008 Airday, only to find out that expected at 15-00 hours, was the Vulcan B.2 and that she was to perform a few manouvres before landing. This was to enable her to receive her display authorisation from the CAA officials, who were present on the airfield. Time went by and the 5 o'clock closing time arrived, but thanks to those helping out that day we were allowed to stay longer, with a new expected arrival time of 17-30. This time she graced us with her presence and a silence fell over the crowd. All that could be heard was the roar of her Rolls-Royce Olympus engines and the continous shutter button releases. The crowds good fortune to be here for this great moment was made even better by the fantastic weather conditions and a whole 30 minutes display, before landing to an applause from the grateful and exhilarated crowd. Shortly after landing, the good news was passed to the crew from the CAA officials, that she would get her display certification.

On Sunday June 15th, Kemble held it's annual Air Day. There was some very impressive air displays during the 6 hours of flying, backed up by a very good mix of aircraft in the static area. At the end of the day the viewing public seemed very happy with what they had saw and I for one totally agreed. A most excellent day.

The involvement of these two big English clubs means that there will be a high volume of fans wanting to get to the game in Moscow to either watch the game or soak up the atmosphere. This means a huge operation over the days leading up to the game and also after the match to transport the fans there and back. For the Avaition Enthusiast / Photographer this has provided many new oppurtunities to capture aircraft and airlines seldom seen at English airports, as well as some common sights also, all of which are helping out with the Moscow airlift.

Today, the BBMF (Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) Avro Lancaster took part in a remembrance of the RAF's 617 Squadron who set out to destroy three dams in the Ruhr valley in 1943. The operation damaged two dams which aided Britain's war effort and was a tremendous success. The squadron deployed the bouncing bomb and mastered its deployment at Derwent Dam, Derbyshire prior to the mission. A service took place which remembered eight aircraft and 53 crew who were lost during the mission. The Lancaster was followed by two Tornadoes from present day 617 squadron.Click the link to view the BBC coverage of the event.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/u...
