Unsubstantiated rumors of an polar survey being undertaken off the Greenock Ice Shelf, proved groundless when this Douglas DC-3 with a Basler turbo engined conversion made a fuel stop at Glasgow Airport on its way to Keflavík.The aircraft is operated by the German based Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), the foremost polar research institute in Germany.According to Wikapedia the Basler conversion "... includes fitting the airframe with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-67R turboprop engines, lengthening the fuselage, strengthening the airframe, upgrading the avionics, and making modifications to the wings' leading edge and wing tip."

It's a sign of the changing face of aviation that the visit of a Tristar causes a stir. Tristars of British Airways and Air Canada used to frequent visitors here. CS-TMP operated a couple of flights for Thomas Cook recently and Kevinwm made sure he was around to capture it.

B-17 Flying Fortress, "Liberty Belle" arrived at Prestwick on 2nd July, 2008 on it's way from the US to the European air show circuit. A trip similar to the jouney it's ancestors took as they passed through the airfield on the way to battle in World War Two. June 11th, 2008 saw Globemaster 177701 pass through PIK on a fuel stop. This was the first visit of a Canadian C-17 to PIK and it's believed to be the first visit to the UK.

It's strange to think that Scotland's capital city had never seen a 767-400 until 10th June, 2008 when Continental sent in N68061 covering for their usual 757 service.

It's unusual to see an A318 at Glasgow so when HB-IPP a A318CJ version arrived Kevinwm made sure he was on hand to capture it. This aircraft arrived using a "Royal Jordanian" callsign.

Oman Air will take delivery of Boeing 737-800 G-CEJP from Flyglobespan. It was painted at Shannon in Ireland and spent a few hours at Glasgow on May 30th, before making it's trip to the Middle East where it will encounter much more heat haze than it did at GLA! This continues the Flyglobespan habit of leasing out it's new aircraft to other airlines.

French Hawkeyes in Inverness

The Northrop Grumman E2-C Hawkeye 2 was seen for the first time at Inverness on 26th, May 2008. The French Navy aircraft dropped in for fuel en-route from their base in Lorient to Keflavik. Ranger 703 was on hand to capture the moment.

Since the demise of FlyWhoosh, Dundee has only had one airline operating regular services from the airport. The 21st May sees the start of FlyBe's new routes to Belfast and Birmingham.The service will be operated by Loganair who are franchise partners with FlyBe.
