This is an extremely rare M-21 version of the SR-71. It was used to launch the CIA's Mach 3.3 spy drone the D-21 seen here nestled between the tails on this amazing aircraft. The D-21 was air launched at high speed and at high altitude M-21 until a fatal crash caused by issues with safe separation between the aircraft. The D-21 was then modified to be air launched by a B-52 with a rocket booster pack to get it up to speed and altitude. It was to expensive and clumsy so it was eventually cancelled. To have both these aircraft together is even more amazing!
