Il-2 is alive again and in flight after 67 years break. 'Winged Memory of Victory' Foundation after the six years works has restored authentic Il-2. Il-2 was the mostly produced plane ever - 36.183 were built and they had played one of the key roles in USSR victory in WWII.

Fiodor, I've some question about the plane. Is the engine AM-38 original? Is the back of
fuselage made of wood or metal? Are the wings made of metal or wood? Is it a version of
"so striełkoj" or "daska"- M3 or M?

Engine is original. Samara plant has assisted restores with original parts. It is M3.
Can't say more for the moment, sorry. I'm just an aviation photographer, not restorer ;)

I have been to Samara many times on business and work in aerospace. Some of my Russian
colleagues have mentioned restoration of an IL-2 with an original engine built in the same
factory where they build rockets today. I've heard that a restored IL-2 with AM-38 will
be flying for Victory Day on May 9, 2015. Can you confirm if this is the same airplane?
