Photo becomes soft after resizing

Hello all!

It's been happening a lot here.

I have a perfectly sharp photo but it becomes ridiculously soft after I resize it to 1200 pixels. What could be the reason for that and how to correct it?

If you are using photoshop, tick resampling - bicubic (smooth gradients)
