Depends on what camera you have to start with. An old used semi-pro camera compared to a new entry level camera.

Hi Wallace I have the 1100D and was considering getting a second hand 40D as the title says. Anyone got experiences with the 40D?

It's a nice camera, but a generation older than the 1100D. You'll feel the difference on the display and the menus.

I really don't know about the image. I only shot once with it, together with a 7D, but each one with different lenses and for different subjects: 7D for spotting and 40D for shooting an activity on I was on.

The problem is that the T3i/1100D is kind of quality and feature-capped, while the 40D was a semipro body with some nice features - it really feels like the predecessor of 7D.

Check how many shots the 40D has, it's important to help you making the decision.
