This cool old Bell UH-1B Huey is a blend of Army and Navy. She is painted up as a Navy attack squadron helicopter but was an Army machine. In 1966 the Navy formed their own Helicopter Attack Squadron 3 or HAL-3 called "Seawolves" using these borrowed Hueys. They provided fire support to the special forces, Navy SEALS, patrol boats and infantry operating in the delts of Vietnam. By the end of 1973 these machines had flown 78,000 fire missions. Their crews were awarded over 17,000 medals for bravery making them the most decorated squadron in US Navy history. These machines were normally armed with two fixed mount 7.62mm M60 machine guns, a fixed mount 7.62mm gatling gun and 14 rounds of rockets in pods. The two rear crew members also had pintle mounted 7.62 M60 machine guns they could shoot down and to the side for fire support as the helicopters landed and took off as well as when they were circling above troops in contact. This machine has 4 mounted 7.62 M60 machine guns.
