This cool old UH-34D Seahorse is resting beside her big sister the CH-53A. She was the last piston powered helicopter in the Marine Corps being powered by a single 1,525 HP Wright R-1820-84 radial engine. She was replaced in service by the turbine powered UH-1 Huey and twin Huey. These choppers had room for up to 18 marines or 8 stretchers in the D models. They had an empty weight of 7,900 lb (3,583 kg) and a maximum takeoff weight of 14,000 lb (6,350 kg). Roughly 2,100 of these helicopters were built.
