This old girl has a special place in history. Her call sign in Vietnam was "Lady Ace 09". During the fall of Saigon she was one of the last helicopters to leave the American Embassy. She landed on the roof and took the last of the diplomatic staff including the American Ambassador to safety on board the USS Blueridge command ship off the coast of Vietnam. She then returned to pick up 25 of the last 61 US Marines guarding the Embassy grounds. Her sister helicopter carried another 25 and the last 11 were picked up by another HH-46 from another unit. These were the last American airlift missions from the Embassy before the North Vietnamese completed their takeover of the city. A very nice piece of history. Behind her are a CH-53 and a UH-34D that also served in the Vietnam war.
