There are times when an image doesn't do justice to the actual scale of a thing, this was one of them. I have many things on my bucket list but being on-board an Antonov AN124 wasn't one of them. In December 2017 I got that opportunity and I was stunned by the sheer size of this giant. Not that it looks small from the outside but the interior looks so massive when you step inside. This shot was taken facing the rear cargo door, a few steps ahead of the ladder that leads to the cockpit, so this image doesn't even show the full length (118 ft) of the cargo hold. An Antonov AN-124 can carry 150 tonnes of cargo. Until the Boeing 747-8F was launched, the AN124 was, for thirty years, the world's heaviest gross weight production cargo airplane and second heaviest operating cargo aircraft, behind the one-off Antonov An-225 Mriya. The plane has an on-board overhead crane capable of lifting up to 30 tonnes of cargo, and items up to 120 tonnes can be winched on board. On this day, she came in to transport a 110 Tonne Electric Transformer from Mumbai to Kingston, Jamaica. Check out the video of a Walk Around this Beast - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO_j_YrSNkw
