A very special photograph - The Andrew Mynarski memorial Lancaster, at night in Winnipeg. Mynarski was awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroic attempt to save tail gunner Pat Brophy as the aircraft went down. This one of the only two airworthy Lancasters in the world. Lancs formed the backbone of the Bomber Command during WWII and were involved in night bombing raids. One of the highlights of the war was Operation Chastise, or the 'Dambusters Raid', where Lancasters employed bouncing bombs to breach the Mohne and Eder dams, flooding the Ruhr valley. Composing the Lancaster at night was special as these bombers were primarily used for nighttime strategic bombing.
