This used to be one of the most important military bases of Eastern block during cold war. Runway was built during WWII by Germans for their jets Me-262. After the war, due to position near Czech-German border the aircraft based here were for many years the best what was available in eastern block. Zatec military base was closed on December 31, 1993. In late 90s a decision to demolish RWY and use the area for industry development was made. Picture shows the situation when there are no buildings and construction works haven't started yet.

I deployed to Zatec in 1992 with F-111E's from the 79th Fighter Squadron, RAF Upper
Heyford, UK. We spent 4 days there sharing experiences with their pilots and maintenance
crews of their MiG-29s. Our trip there was sponsored by the Pivovar Most Brewery. Soon
after that, they brought a couple of MiG-29 to Upper Heyford for a visit to our squadron.
I do still have a few photos from those days.
