Overhead the river Elbe and shipping traffic.
On 16 July 2013, the Hamburg based air rescue service celebrated 40 years of service. It all started out 40 years ago with a UH-1D of the German Air Force being based at the Bundeswehrkrankenhaus (Armed Forces Hospital) and named SAR 71. In 2006, the operation was transferred to the Bundesminesterium des Innern (Federal Ministry of the Interior) and the EC-135 was introduced, together with the call sign Christoph 29.
To celebrate the 40 years of history, an open day was organized on 24 August 2013. Part of the festivities this day was a formation flight by Christoph 29 and it's predecessor, the venerable UH-1D (71+12) of the German Air Force.
Many thanks to the crews of Christoph 29 and UH-1D and Air Traffic Control to be able to do this unique flight. Special thanks have to go the the two pilots of my photoship (Canair's C172 D-EJXC): Sönke and Daniel who did a splendid job flying and arranging everything.
Last, but most definitely not least, I would like to thank Christian Bramkamp for this great opportunity. He was the photographer of choice for this flight, but was already occupied with Tannkosh this weekend and referred Sönke and Daniel to me.
