Another beautiful show of green, blue and purple Aurora was visible last week over the Northern Atlantic Ocean and Europe. I switched on the landing lights and the beams shine straight ahead in the dark moonless sky to give a feeling of depth in this shot. As often with strong solar storms, the upper atmosphere of Earth is heavily ionized and charged, making long-range HF radio communication very hard, if not impossible.This night the aurora was so heavy that we had no HF radio contact for the majority of the flight between Ireland and Canada with either Shanwick or Gander at all until we got in VHF short-range radio range near the coast again. A nice and quiet flight for a change ;)Photo shot around 57'N 030'W.
