Mention the words 'Myrtle Avenue' to any aviation photographer around the world and even if they've never been to the UK the image that springs to mind would probably be something like this. Here, on a patch of grass only a few minutes walk from Hatton Cross tube station you get perfect views of arrivals to one of the worlds busiest airports, and the traffic is much relentless. An aircraft lands roughly every 90-120 seconds and it's like that virtually all day, so your trigger finger gets a good workout! Free buses connect Hatton Cross station with other spots around the airport and the terminal itself and there are plenty of hotels within moderate walking distance of the 27 approaches, making it a fairly easy airport to visit for a few days. Here fellow photographers Jimmy Leaman, Dave Henderson and Aidan Ingham shoot the speedy arrival of an aircraft as much associated with Heathrow airport as I am with eating cheeseburgers; the big and beautiful British Airways 747. All good fun!
