I'am asking myself why boeing has decided to close the upper windows in the 737
cockpit...did the sun blend the pilots?

The windows are never used and the costs of maintanance (change&repair of window +
windowheat + sensors etcetc) are easily saved when closing down the windows. Just money is
the answer. :)

And when they were never used why were they build? Great shot!

In the time the original 737 was designed and approved different certification
requirements prevailed, so the cockpit and windows were designed by the demands of that
time.
Today, we dont need to navigate by the stars anymore, so the need for the upper
windows is gone. Just like the rest of the cockpit and especially the overhead panel is
still constructed the way it used to be, with only minor ajustments here and there when
specific systems were updated.

Why is just the right landing light on?

@ Jean K.; both inboard landinglights are on, the outboard landinglights are off since it
is daylight.
