Hi, I got a picture reject because of banding some minutes ago. (You can see it below). At first I wanted to know what you think about it, is this really not acceptable? Beside the fact that for me it is quite annoying that such creative a shot gets rejected because of this minor issue, I just want to know how to avoid this banding. When I open the psd of the processed image and the jpg in PS I see the banding in the jpg but not in the psd. How can I manage that also the jpg has no visible banding? Thanks in advance and best regards Thomas Attached photos: |

Hi, if you take a look at the Forum, Mr. Angelo Bufalino has dropped some lines about it. The topic is: "Fixing Banding in aviation photography" at http://www.airplane-pictures.net/forum/941/fixing-banding-in-aviation-photography/
In my turn I've found an interesting article and tutorial at: http://nomorebanding.com/cache
And finaly sometimes I have to use a Photoshop plug-in (action) which is has been very helpful to me, it works fine in 80-90% of the cases in which the final picture leads to create some banding in the sky. It has the sugestive name of "no more banding 0.5.atn" and you can download it for free at: http://nomorebanding.com/
Good luck!

Alright, I now tried the two options (Angelos link doesn't work anymore...) and with both the banding is weakened but not removed... Is there any other way in the world of PS or is my pic a hopeless case? |

As I know from my own experience, banding is a result of image compression and sometimes noise reduction. It is known that JPEG compression increases every time you save the image. Try to save the image as less times as possible. If you need to edit the image in more than one software, try saving it in TIFF format, so the JPEG is the final stage. And be carefull with noise reduction :) |

Well, I only saved the image once, and it's difficult to be carefull with noise reduction as an inage can be rejected because of a really small amount of noise. But you are right of course ;) |
