This McDonnell-Douglas VC-9C flew with the 89th Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB in Washington, DC from 1975 until she retired in 2011. She flew the first ladies, Vice presidents, VVIP passengers and diplomats around the world serving in the administrations of Presidents Ford, Carter, Reagan, both Bushes, Clinton and President Obama. These 3 VC-9C aircraft have VIP seating for 42 and a range of 2,000 miles. They retired the fleet with an average of 16-17,000 hours per airframe making them old in years but young in flying time. They were replaced by the Boeing BBJ airframes called C-40B/C in their various versions. With all the Navy Boeing 737 based P-8A joining the fleet as well the maintenance and spare parts loading is much easier than for 3 VVIP jets with the rest of the Air Force and Navy C-9's having retired. The US Marines will still fly theirs for a while longer I believe while waiting for funding for new jets.
