The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight sold Spitfire PR19 PS853 to Rolls Royce in 1994 to fund the restoration of this Hurricane, which had crash landed at Wittering in 1991. It is believed to be the last to have entered service with the RAF, having been delivered new to 5MU, RAF Kemble, in 1944. It remained with the RAF on various station flights until it joined what was then the RAF Memorial Flight when it was set up in 1957; it has been in continuous RAF service for 64 years.
