A very happy Jacek Mainka after his first flight in a single seat Spitfire. Jacek received his type rating on the (dual-seat) Spitfire earlier in 2013 at Biggin-Hill in England. As a child, he listened to his grandfather's stories as a 303 and 308 SQN mechanic from WWII. His grandfather also introduced him to airmen who had flown the Spitfire. All this made him want to fly the Spitfire, but, being 8 years old, still without any comprehension about the Iron Curtain, and financials needed to fly such a classic, it seemed to stay a dream for ever. With the fall of the Iron Curtain, things turned for the better. Eventually becoming an Airbus 320 Captain-Instructor. After acquiring a Tiger Moth in 2007, he worked his way toward the Spitfire by flying the Chipmunk, Harvard and dual-Spit first. Culminating in his first single seat Spitfire flight on this particular day.
